BUILDING GREENSBORO'S FUTURE

TIME FOR A NEW Y

The YMCA has strengthened the greater Greensboro community for over a century. Serving 60,000 people annually, today our Y has six branches and Camp Weaver, most of which have been built new or renovated over the last decade.

At 75 years old, Hayes-Taylor is now Greensboro YMCA's oldest facility. Located next to NC A&T State University, the Y has served southeast Greensboro as a place to break down barriers and build up our youth. Our diverse communities need more than the old Y location can provide. The old Y has no room to grow, lacks parking and outdoor fields and its aging infrastructure is costly to maintain.

To solve these challenges in accordance with the Greensboro YMCA long-range strategic plans, the old building was sold to NC A&T State University providing seed money to build a new Y in southeast Greensboro. Now we need to raise additional funds so we can quickly build a new Y.

The Y completed a market study indicating the need for more services in southeast Greensboro. The City provided land at Barber Park to build a new Y so citizens can benefit from shared facilities and expanded services. The new Y will more than double the number of people that can be served, reduce maintenance costs and increase sustainability. Our community has already invested millions in this fast-growing area through Gateway University Research Park, Gateway Gardens and Barber Park. The new expanded facilities and activities will be attractive to employees and families and can help enrich economic development efforts in this growing area.

We have a great plan for a new facility, a choice location in an expanding area of Greensboro and seasoned leadership to get the job done. Now all we need is your support to make this exciting addition to our community a reality.

A THRIVING COMMUNITY FOR ALL

Current plans for the new Y feature a dynamic facility with approximately 55,000 square feet of indoor recreation and wellness space, as well as outdoor fields that will complement the Barber Park
amenities. Visitors will enjoy a wooded setting, ample parking and expanded services provided by caring Y staff who are there to help you make the most of our great facilities and programs.

The new eco-friendly facilities will foster individual well-being and growth as well as provide group activities that offer all ages and abilities the opportunity for positive interaction and community involvement.

The new Y will have a strong focus on youth development including a 5-star daycare center, afterschool and camp programs, a Teen/Intergenerational Center and a Kids' Adventure Center. Healthy living programs will include physical and educational activities for all ages. The focus on social responsibility will encourage people of all ages to volunteer to support community service activities.

Without your support, we can not get it done. Through the generosity of donors like you, a new YMCA for Greensboro will become a reality.

NEW GATEWAY NEIGHBORHOOD

Gateway University Research Park, also known as the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, is a joint venture between NC A&T State University and UNCG designed to move scientific discoveries from the lab to the marketplace benefiting Greensboro and North Carolina by transforming cutting edge intellectual properties into thriving business ventures. When fully occupied, Gateway Research Park is expected to house more than 2,000 employees generating economic impact of $50 million per year in the Triad. A YMCA located directly across the street offering childcare, wellness and other recreational opportunities will be very attractive to employees and their families.

Barber Park will be home to the new Y. This Greensboro park features indoor tennis, volleyball and basketball, a baseball stadium, disc golf course, outdoor amphitheater and spray park, trails and picnic shelters. The City has long envisioned expanding services here, and the Y will help fill that need by adding soccer fields, an indoor aquatics center and wellness activities. As neighbors, the Y and Barber Park together will provide complementary amenities and services for the community.

Gateway Gardens is the biggest project undertaken in the 40-year history of Greensboro Beautiful. Eventually spanning 11 acres, it provides a stunning entryway into the City, a playful and interactive garden and horticultural oasis for all ages. The new Y will be directly across from this exciting neighbor giving citizens new opportunities to explore.
